9 Makers originally began as a small group of textile graduates who met at a symposium held in Burnley in 1998. It was convened to bring together textile artists, designers, and educationalists to celebrate and promote the rich textile traditions of the North West region of England.
In that spirit the group members continue to work in isolation, but meet regularly for visits to exhibitions and places of interest. They discuss work, offer support, gain inspiration to develop ideas, and also try to have some fun! In addition to textiles, the group now embraces other disciplines including wood carving, fine art and mixed media.
